For 30 years, The Country House in Geneva, served up burgers and ribs, then later it also offered turkey, bison, elk and veggie burgers. But the owner announced on social media that the restaurant at 2095 S. Kirk Road has closed. The original location in Clarendon Hills will remain open.

On Monday, the couple plans to put their 2 acres on the market and give up their fight with the city of McHenry to revert their land along West Crystal Lake Road to agricultural zoning, as it was when they bought it.

Xandria Harris was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison for being in direct contempt of court, by Kankakee County Circuit Judge Kathy Bradshaw-Elliott. Harris was found guilty earlier this year of the offense during a bench trial before Bradshaw-Elliott.

A Whiteside County jury has awarded $31.5 million to the widow and two young daughters of a Sterling firefighter killed in the line of duty four years ago. The verdict in favor of Brittney Ramos, suing in connection with the December 2021 death of her husband, Lt. Garrett Ramos, found that former Rock Falls Fire Chief Cris Bouwens and Rock Falls Fire Chief Ken Wolf, who was a deputy chief at the time of the fire, were each 50% to blame for Ramos’ death.

A Dixon man has been charged with possessing and sharing files depicting child sexual abuse, according to records filed in DeKalb County court. Jonathan Rivera, 24, has been charged with two counts of sharing child sexual abuse material, Class X felonies, court records show.

Even with a proposed data center virtually off the agenda, the project drew a stream of opposition when the Joliet Plan Commission met Thursday. The show of opposition may have been a sample of the growing distrust of data centers, viewed by opponents as operations that suck up electricity and community water supplies to foster a future guided by artificial intelligence.

With Grande Park and Southbury elementary schools approaching capacity, Oswego School District 308 is looking at adjusting boundaries for each school by next year. “We have some concern immediately at Southbury and Grande Park,” District 308 Deputy Superintendent Heather Kincaid during the district’s annual fall public forum on Nov. 3 at Plank Junior High School.
