The Trump and Truth Store in Huntley soon could be forced to vacate its space. The store, in a strip mall off Route 47, was cited by the village for local sign ordinance violations. Those include installing signs and flags in the public right of way, displaying exterior signs without required permits, installing signs and merchandise on sidewalks and on the building, and “displaying an inflatable figure,” according to McHenry County court records.

Once the central point for the delivery of babies in and around Kankakee County, it appears that function will largely end for St. Mary’s. Prime Healthcare, the new owner of St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee, is parting ways with the obstetrics group which has been the provider of childbirth labor and delivery services the past four years.

Emergency crews rescued a family who fell Tuesday at French Canyon in Starved Rock State Park. About 5:57 p.m., emergency responders were called to Starved Rock after a 7-year-old child with special needs accidentally fell almost 30 feet onto the sandstone floor of the French Canyon, Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police Sgt. Phil Wire said.

The new owner of Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet plans to shut down its inpatient pediatrics unit. The Illinois Nurses Association, which represents union nurses at the hospital, announced the pending pediatric unit closure, saying it would leave “thousands” of Joliet children without an in-town hospital for their needs.

At the Monday, April 7 meeting, during the time reserved for additional comments from officials, Ward 3 alderperson Paul Lencioni directed a series of accusations toward fellow council member David Pietryla.

A state-operated residential institution in Dixon is among three such facilities under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice. The Mabley Developmental Center, one of seven such institutions operated by the Illinois Department of Human Services, is among three being investigated as to whether residents are exposed to abuse and neglect, according to reporting by Capitol News Illinois.

The DeKalb School District 428 school board this week approved an update to superintendent Minerva Garcia-Sanchez’s employment contract, which now includes 278 additional sick days, district documents show. Some current and future school board members voiced concerns this week over an amendment to the superintendent’s employment contract. Though more board members voted in support of the contract change.

Oswego village officials hope making the intersection of Fifth Street and Bluegrass Parkway a four-way stop will help reduce the number of crashes there. At the April 22 Village Board meeting, trustees unanimously approved installing two additional stop signs at the intersection. The issue had been discussed at the April 8 Committee of the Whole meeting.
