Shaw Media newspapers won several awards this week from the Illinois Associated Press Media Editors. Overall, Shaw Media won 12 awards, including Amanda Marrazzo’s Sweepstakes award for the top story in all news categories for Division I.

McHenry athletic director Barry Burmeister approached his dire cancer prognosis as he does with most things, viewing it as a competition. Burmeister worked through his illness and now is stepping down after 35 years as teacher, coach and administrator.

Performers in Illinois told Shaw Local News Network that they think the recent rise in hostility toward drag shows in the suburbs has been driven by a small coordinated contingent who misrepresent drag and the nature of their shows.

Shaw Media swept the Division I Business Reporting category.
The IAPME awards will be presented during the Illinois Press Association Convention June 8 in Bloomington.
Last week we learned Shaw Media newspapers are finalists for 40 IPA awards. We will learn what place those awards are during IPA’s June 8 convention.
