Shaw Local News Network is looking for a top-notch editorial assistant based in Kendall County, Illinois, to join the news staff of the Kendall County Record.
About This Opportunity:
The ideal applicant will be someone with a keen sense of curiosity, an eye for detail, and an ability to multi-task, handling multiple news stories in a day. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail and accuracy, ability to meet deadlines, and familiarity with AP style.
• Crafting short, factual stories based on news releases, interviews, and other sources.
• Compiling community briefs: Gather, edit, and summarize short news items from around the county. Refine news releases for clarity, accuracy, and style.
• Review and compile letters to the editor and prepare them for publication.
• Scheduling story publication and managing weekly budgets: Work with the editorial team to plan publication dates and track story budgets.
• Assisting the Editor with other editorial tasks as needed.
• A college degree in journalism or related field.
• Solid knowledge of AP Style and grammar.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, dependable. transportation, and proof of insurance.
